Dear customers,
Outage & Recovery
As you are probably aware our main web hosting server failed last week, the cause of which was determined to be overheating. Prior to this it had been crashing with increasing frequency, resulting in intermittent problems with email and websites.
As a result we have invested in a state of the art dual Pentium 4 machine managed by one of the world's largest hosting providers. Our new server is directly linked to a major internet backbone in Houston.
We were able to recover website and email accounts from the older server and from backups, a process completed on Friday night. Low Budget Hosting sincerely regrets any inconvenience you may have experienced while we recovered from this technical fault.
If you still have any problems...
Any time you change the physical destination of domain names on the internet, there are natural effects that may have caused additional delays for some of our customers. The first is propagation, the replication of the change to various internet nodes around the globe, which can take up to 48 hours. The second is an ISP caching effect, which means that if you had checked things before the change had fully propagated, you might have created a "memory" of this state with your ISP. Your experience is then perpetuated for the timeframe your ISP has set, even after propagation finishes. This can lead to a situation where your email and website works for you from home but not from work, for example.
If you are still experiencing this it should resolve very soon. You may wish to try your website both with and without the "www." prefix, and your mail server both with and without the "mail." prefix, as only one of these states will have been cached. If you continue to experience problems, please let us know.
Also, depending on when you may have checked your email over this period, there may be some incoming email you have missed that is still on the old server. We are working to have this delivered over the next day or so (it's possible you may receive again some emails you had previously received).
Also please note that if you were using an IP address for FTP, please use your domain name instead.
Sincerely,
LBH Support
